WAYS TO VOLUNTEER

There are three main ways you can help the UIUC Veteran Project: by helping us interview veterans, by creating a documentary for a veteran, or by helping us find new veterans to interview.

Interview

If you wanted to help us interview the veterans, you could either lead the interview by asking questions (which we already have written up) or sit-in on the interview and ask follow-up questions. Sitting in on interviews is a great experience and you will hear about the sacrifices and realities of serving in the military. You can also help us scan pictures and military documents the veterans bring in.

Make A Documentary

You can also commit to making a documentary. This might sound overwhelming, but we will help you along the way. You will be able to pick which veteran you want to make a documentary on and you have creative control. We know college is stressful and hectic, so you wouldn't have a deadline for the documentary. We would hope to have documentaries finished in about a year. We prefer using Adobe Premiere, but you can use whatever program you're comfortable with. If you're unfamiliar with editing videos, we'd be happy to teach you! You can work on the documentary at home or in any computer lab on campus. If you're interested in making a documentary and receiving academic credit, please contact us and we can explain how it works.

Find Veterans

Finally you can help us find new veterans to interview. To keep the project going, we need to keep interviewing veterans. We can always use new ideas to find and reach out to veterans in the community.
