FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can be interviewed?
Any veteran from any time period can be interviewed. It does not matter where you served, when you served, or how long you served.

How can I schedule an interview?
You can call us at 815-979-1932 or email us at uiucveteranproject@gmail.com to schedule an interview.

How long does the interview take?
The interview length depends on how much the veteran shares. Interviews usually last 1-2 hours.

Where are the interviews held?
Interviews are held in the Media Commons in the Undergraduate Library at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The address is 1402 W Gregory Dr, Urbana, IL 61801. When we schedule your interview, we will explain where to park. A student will meet you and walk you to the Media Commons.

Am I important enough to be interviewed?
Yes! We want to interview all veterans no matter where or when they served. Even if you never saw combat, we want to document your life and story.

Can I sign my relative up for an interview? Can I sit in on the interview?
Yes, a veteran's relative can sign them up for an interview. A veteran can also have a relative sit in on the interview and ask any follow-up questions at the end.

I want to sign my relative up for an interview but they do not like talking about their military experience. What should I do?
We will never make a veteran answer questions that make them uncomfortable. Our project was created to honor and respect veterans. If your relative does not want to be interviewed, please do not try to force them.

My relative has Alzheimer's/dementia. Can they still be interviewed?
We will never say no to an interview. With that in mind, please use your judgement to decide if your relative is lucid enough to be interviewed about their military experience and life.

How long does it take for a documentary to be finished?
We strive to finish documentaries in a year. These documentaries are made solely by college students and usually during the school year, so the students are also balancing school/work responsibilities.
