ABOUT US
We are a group of students at University of Illinois who want to honor veterans and document history. Our mission is to interview veterans and then produce documentaries for those veterans and their families. We believe every veteran, no matter what time they served or if they served during wartime or peacetime, deserves to be heard. Hearing about war and conflict and travel from these veterans allows us to understand history from a firsthand perspective.
HOW WE STARTED
A few of the students who started the UIUC Veteran History Project were involved in a similar project in High School called The Illinois Veterans & Community Classroom Project. It was started to create digital stories of the service and sacrifice by men and women who were involved in World War II, The Korean War, and the Vietnam War. You can find out more about the program here.

These UIUC students realized they could bring the project to the Champaign-Urbana community. They chose to open the project up to all veterans from any time period so that more veterans can be honored and so that more stories can be preserved.
